The first part of this work was published in 1675 with the title A Paraphrase and Annotations upon the Epistles of St. Paul written to the Romans, Corinthians, and Hebrews by Three Oxford Dons. A second edition with the remaining epistles was published in 1684. When the third edition (1702) was published the title page indicated it was "Corrected and Improved" by Bishop Fell. The 1708 edition title page had the names of Abraham Woodhead, Richard Allestry and Obadiah Walker on the title page. It is unclear what role Bishop Fell had in the preparation of this version. An edition edited by Bishop Jacobson in 1852; the preface includes a history of this version.
The text is the Authorized Version with words and phrases to complete the sense added in brackets.
Pope's description includes short biographies of Woodhead, Walker and Allestry including information tht Woodhead and Walker were secretly Catholics during the reigns of Charles II and James II.
