The scripture text retold (by the Jewess Lauren Winner) is arranged to be read by the various voices that appear in the Gospel story; this makes this book different to others of its kind. - For the complete NT- Edition (2008) the translation has been revised.

Birnbaum's personal remarks on the Voice of Matthew:

Lauren Winner retells Matthew 28:1 as follows:

»After the Sabbath, as the light of the next day, the first day of the week, crept over Palestine, Mary Magdalene ……«

Apart from the fact that the geographical name of Palestine - as unsuspicious as it may sound - is in this case anachronistic, there was no country named Palestine at the time of Jesus. The Roman emperor Hadrian, after the hardly gained suppression of the Jewish revolt under Bar Kochba a. D. 135 had the name of the land Judea blotted out and called this now conquered province "Syria Philistina" after some of their former inhabitants, the Philistines, which once were the arch- enemies of the Hebrews. He did this intentionally in order that the names of Judea and Israel should be remembered no more; likewise he renamed the city of Jerusalem "Aelia Capitolina" and declared the once Holy City off limits to all Jews.
So a land called "Palestine" was brought into existence – the words of Psalm 83:5 may serve as a prophetic instance – from a. D. 135 until 1948, but never at the time of Jesus or ever before.
It is more than annoying and inconsistent to historical facts when not a few of the maps in today's Bibles still promote that there was a country called Palestine in biblical times (the Voice Bible doesn't!). The Philistine people endeavored for this dubious renaming of Eretz Israel are long retired, dead and gone from the historical scene.
Obviously the revisers of the 2008 NT- edition and the whole Bible (2012) felt no need to take care of that issue.
