Psalm 23 (from the 1939 edition)

1Jehovah is my shepherd; I lack nothing
2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He guideth me to restful waters:
3He restoreth my life.
He leadeth me by right paths
for his name's sake.
4Yea, though I walk in dark valley
I fear no evil,
For thou art with me; thy club and thy staff,
They comfort me.
5Thou preparest a table before me
In the sight of mine enemies:
Thou hast anointed my head with oil:
My cup is well filled.
6Naught but goodness and kindness shall follow me
All the days of my life:
And I shall dwell in Jehovah's house
For length of days.

Psalm 23 (from the 1944 edition)

1Jehovah is my shepherd; I lack nothing
2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He guideth me to restful waters:
3He restoreth my life.
He leadeth me by right paths
For his name's sake.
4Yea, though I walk in dark valley
I fear no evil,
For thy club and thy staff are with me:
They comfort me.
5Thou spreadest a table before me
In the sight of mine enemies:
Thou hast anointed my head with oil:
My cup is well filled.
6Naught but goodness and kindness shall follow me
All the days of my life:
And I shall dwell in Jehovah's house
For length of days.

Mark 1:9-13

9And it came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and was baptized in the Jordan by John. 10And straightway, as he came out of the water, he saw the heavens rent asunder, and the Spirit descending upon him as a dove; 11and there came a voice from the heavens, 'THou art my beloved Son, in thee I am well pleased'.
12And straightway the Spirit casteth him out into the wilderness. 13And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted the while by Satan, and he was with the wild beasts, and the angels were ministering to him.

John 1:1-5

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was in the beginning with God.
3All things were made through him, and without him was made nothing that hath been made.
4In him was life, and the life was the light of men; 5and the light shineth in the darkness, and the darkness hath not overcome it.

1 Corinthians 15:1-8

1Now I make known to you again, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also ye received, wherein indeed ye stand, 2through which ye are being saved; recalling to you in what terms I preached it to you, if ye hold fast thereto- unless ye have believed to no purpose. 3For I delivered to you before all else, what I also had received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4and that he was buried, and that he rose on the third day according to the Scriptures; 5and taht he appeared to Cephas, and then to the twelve. 6After that he appeared to more than five hundred brethren at once, most of whom survive, though some have fallen asleep. 7After that he appeared to James, and then to all the apostles. 8Last of all, as to one born out of due time, he appeared also to me.
