Mark 1:9-13
9At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10As he came up out of the water, he saw the heavens split open and the Spirit like a dove descending on him. 11 There was a voice from the heavens, "You are my dear and only Son. With you I am well pleased."
12Then the Spirit drove Jesus out into the wilderness; 13and in the wilderness he was put to the test for forty days by Satan; he was with wild beasts, and angels attended to his needs.
Luke 1:67-76
67 His father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied,
68 The Lord God of Israel is to be praised,
for he has visited his people and liberated them.
69 He has raised up a strong Saviour for us
in the house of his servant David
70 (as he promised through his holy prophets of long ago),
71 to save us from our enemies
and from the hand of all who hate us.
72 He has done this to fulfil the mercy shown towards our fathers,
and to remember his holy covenant,
73 an oath which he swore to our father Abraham
74 that we should be delivered from the hand of our enemies
and enabled to serve him unafraid 75 in holiness and righteousness all our days.
76 You too, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High God,
for you go before the Lord to prepare his ways.
John 1:1-5
1When everything began the Word already existed. The Word was with God and shared his nature. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3All things came into being through him, and apart from him not even one thing came into being. Everything that came into being 4derived its life from him, and his life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has never overcome it.
1 Corinthians 15:1-8
1Now, brothers, I want to remind you if the Good News which I preached to you and tell you what it means. You received it; you stand firm in it; 2you are being saved through it, that is, if you hold fast to my account of it, and if your belief in it was not meaningless. 3I handed on to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4That he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the Twelve; 6after that he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have died; 7after that he appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 8last of all he appeared even to me, 'abortion' though I was and far from ready for the new life.
1 Timothy 2:1-7
1 First of all, then, I ask that petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgivings be offered for all men; 2 pray for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life, with all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and pleasing to God our Saviour, 4 who wants all men to be saved and come to know the truth. 5 There is one God; and there is also one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. 6 He gave himself to set all men free, and so he bore witness, at times of his own choosing, to God's saving purpose. 7 This is what I have been appointed to proclaim as an apostle (believe me, this is the truth), to teach the Gentiles the true faith.
