Mark 1:9-13

9 In those days Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee, came and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 As he came up out of the water he saw the skies parted, and the spirit as a dove descending upon him; 11 and there came a voice from heaven: Thou art my beloved son, in whom I delight.
12 Thereupon the spirit sent him forth into the desert. 13 And he was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts, and angels ministered to him.

John 1:1-5

According to Torrey, the asterisk indicates a misunderstanding in the Greek text caused by the Semitic idom.

I In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2* When he was in the beginning with God 3 all things were created through him; without him came no created thing into being. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men; 5 and the light shone on in the darkness, and the darkness overcame it not.
