Mark 1:9-13

Preliminary Edition - 1902

9About that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10Just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the sky parting, and the Spirit, like a dove, coming down upon him, 11while from the sky there came a voice—
"Thou art my Son, my beloved, in thee I delight."
12Immediately afterwards the Spirit impelled Jesus to go into the desert; 13and he was there in the desert forty days, tempted by Satan, and among the wild beasts, while angels ministered to him.

Revised Edition - 1904

9Now about that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens rent apart, and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him, 11and from the heavens came a voice—
"Thou art my Son, the Beloved; in thee I delight."
12Immediately afterwards the Spirit drove Jesus out into the Wilderness; 13and he was there in the Wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and among the wild beasts, while the angels ministered to him.

John 1:1-5

Preliminary Edition - 1902

1At the Beginning the Word already was:
The Word was with God;
And the Word was God.
2He was with God at the beginning;
3It was through him that everything began,
And not a single thing began apart from him.
4That which began in him was Life itself;
That Life was the Light of mankind;
5And the Light has been shining in the darkness,
And the darkness has never overpowered it.

Revised Edition - 1904

1In the Beginning the Word was;
And the Word was with God;
And the Word was God.
2He was in the Beginning with God;
3Through him all things came into being,
And nothing came into being apart from him.
4That which came into being in him was Life;
And the Life was the Light of Man;
5And the Light shines in the darkness,
And the darkness never overpowered it.

1 Corinthians 15:1-8

Preliminary Edition - 1902

1Brothers, I want to remind you of the Good News which I once told you, and which you received. It is the Good News on which you have taken your stand, 2and by means of which you are being saved. I want to remind you of the very words that I used in telling it to you — assuming that you are still holding fast to it, and have not believed it in vain. 3In the forefront of my teaching I gave you the account which I had myself received—how that Christ died for our sins (as the Scriptures had foretold), 4that he was buried, that on the third day he was raised from the grave (as the Scriptures had foretold), 5and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of our Brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have gone to their rest. 7Later on, he appeared to James, and then to all the Apostles. 8Last of all, he appeared to me also, as to one born, so to speak,at the wrong time.

Revised Edition - 1904

1Next, Brothers, I would remind you of the Good News which I told you, and which you received—the Good News on which you have taken your stand, 2and by means of which you are being saved. I would remind you of the very words that I used in telling it to you, since you are still holding fast to it, and since it was not in vain that you became believers in Christ. 3For at the very beginning of my teaching I gave you the account which I had myself received—that Christ died for our sins (as the Scriptures had foretold), 4that he was buried, that on the third day he was raised (as the Scriptures had foretold), 5and that he appeared to Kephas, and then to the Twelve. 6After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of our Brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have gone to their rest. 7After that, he appeared to James, and then to all the Apostles. 8Last of all, he appeared even to me, who am, as it were, the abortion.
