Genesis 12:1-5
1 God had told Abram, “Leave your own country behind you, and your own people. Go to the land I will guide you to. 2 If you do, I will cause you to become the father of a great nation. I will bless you and make your name famous. You will be a blessing to many others. 3 I will bless those who bless you. I will curse those who curse you. The entire world will be blessed because of you.”
4 So Abram left as the Lord had told him to. And Lot went with him. Abram was 75 years old at that time. 5 He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot. He gathered up all his wealth—the cattle and slaves he had gotten in Haran. And they set out for Canaan and came there at last.
Psalm 23
1 The Lord is my Shepherd.
So I have everything I need!
2 He lets me rest in the meadow grass.
He leads me beside the quiet streams.
3He gives me new strength.
He helps me do what honors him the most.
4 I may walk through the dark valley of death.
But even then I will not be afraid.
For you are close beside me.
And you are guarding and guiding all the way.
5 You give me good food for me in the house of my enemies.
You have welcomed me as your guest.
Blessings overflow all around me!
6 Your goodness and kindness shall be with me all of my life.
And then I will live with you forever in your home.
Isaiah 55:1-3
1 Say there! Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink. Come even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine and milk. It’s all free! 2 Why spend your money on food that doesn't give you strength? Why pay for groceries that do you no good? Listen and I’ll tell you where to get good food that fills the soul!
3 Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, for the life of your soul is at stake. I am ready to make an everlasting covenant with you. I want to give you all the unfailing love that I had for King David.
Mark 1:9-13
9 Then one day Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee. He was baptized by John there in the Jordan River. 10 When Jesus came up out of the water, he saw the heavens open. The Holy Spirit in the form of a dove flew down on him. 11 And a voice from heaven said, “You are my Son whom I love. I am very pleased with you!”
12-13 Right then the Holy Spirit urged Jesus into the desert. There, for 40 days, alone except for desert animals. During that time Satan tried to tempt Jesus to sin. And then the angels came and took cake for him.
John 1:1-5
1-2 Before anything else existed, there was God's Son. He was the Word, and he was with God. He has always been alive and is himself God. 3 He created everything there is. Nothing exists that he didn't make. 4 Eternal life is in him. This life gives light to all mankind. 5 His life is the light that shines through the darkness. And the darkness can never put it out.
Romans 8:38, 39a
I am sure that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can't, and life can't. The angels won't. All the powers of hell can't keep God's love away. Our fears for today, and our worries about tomorrow can't either. It doesn't matter if we are high above the sky, or deep in the ocean.
1 Corinthians 15:1-8
1 Let me remind you, brothers, about what the Good News really is. It has not changed. It is the same Good News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then and still do now. Your faith is built upon this message. 2It is this Good News that saves you if you still firmly believe it. But it won't save you if you never believed it in the first place.
3 I passed on to you from the first what had been told to me. Christ died for our sins just as the Bible said he would, 4 He was buried, and three days later he rose from the grave. This happened just as the prophets said it would. 5 He was seen by Peter. Later he was seen by the rest of “the Twelve.” 6 After that, more than 500 Christian brothers saw him at one time. Most of them are still alive, though some have died by now. 7 Then James saw him, and later all the apostles. 8 Last of all I saw him too, long after the others. It was as though I had been born almost too late for this.
1 Peter 2:4
Come to Christ. He is the living Foundation Rock upon which God builds. Men have thrown him out. But he is very precious to God who has chosen him above all others.
