Mark 1:9-13
9And it happened at that time that Jesus went from Nazareth, in Galilee [i.e., south to Judea], where He was immersed by John in the Jordan River. 10And immediately upon emerging from the water, He saw the sky split open and the Holy Spirit descending on Him as a dove. 11And a voice called out from heaven, saying, "You are my dearly loved Son. I am very pleased with you."
12Then right after that the Holy Spirit drove Jesus out into the desert. 13He spent forty days in this desert where He was put to the test by Satan. He was with wild animals, and angels ministered to His needs [while there].
John 1:1-5
1The Word [already] existed in the beginning [of time]. [Note: This is a reference to the preexistence of Jesus. See verse 14]. And the Word was with God and the Word was [what] God [was]. This Word existed with God from the beginning [of time].
3Everything came into being through this Word, and apart from Him not a single thing came into being. 4Life existed in Him; and that Life [was what] enlightened mankind [spiritually]. 5And [His] light continued to shine, [even] in the darkness [of the world], and that darkness did not overcome Him [or, did not fully understand Him].
1 Corinthians 15:1-8
1Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the good news which I preached to you. You received it; you are standing firm in it; 2[and] you have been saved by it also, if you hold on to it firmly [i.e., continue believing and practicing it]. For if you do not [hold on to it firmly], you will have believed [it] all for nothing.
3For I passed on to you the [following] main principles that I received [i.e., by revelation]: Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures; 4He was buried; He was raised [from the dead] on the third day, according to the Scriptures; 5and He appeared to Cephas [i.e., Peter. See Luke 24:34], and then to the twelve apostles. [See Luke 24:33]. 6After that He appeared to over five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, but some have died. 7Then He appeared to James [Note: This was probably Jesus’ half-brother. See Acts 12:17; Gal. 1:19], and then to all of the apostles. [See John 20:26]. 8Then last of all, He appeared to me also, as someone born abnormally. [Note: This probably refers to Paul being converted later than the rest of the apostles].
