Genesis 12:1-5
Revised Edition - 1981
1And Jehovah proceeded to say to Abram: “Go your way out of your country and from your relatives and from the house of your father to the country that I shall show you; 2and I shall make a great nation out of you and I shall bless you and I will make your name great; and prove yourself a blessing. 3And I will bless those who bless you, and him that calls down evil upon you I shall curse, and all the families of the ground will certainly bless themselves by means of you.”
4At that Abram went just as Jehovah had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he went out from Haran. 5So Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot the son of his brother and all the goods that they had accumulated and the souls whom they had acquired in Haran, and they got on their way out to go to the land of Canaan. Finally they came to the land of Canaan.

Psalm 23
First Edition -1957, Revised Edition - 1981
1Jehovah is my Shepherd.
I shall lack nothing.
2In grassy pastures he makes me lie down;
By well-watered resting-places he conducts me.
3My soul he refreshes.
He leads me in the tracks of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4Even though I walk in the valley of deep shadow,
I fear nothing bad,
For you are with me;
Your rod and your staff are the things that comfort me.
5You arrange before me a table in front of those showing hostility to me.
With oil you have greased my head;
My cup is well filled.
6Surely goodness and loving-kindness themselves will pursue me all the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of Jehovah to the length of days.

My cup is well-filled.

Isaiah 55:1-3
Revised Edition - 1981
1Hey there, all YOU thirsty ones! Come to the water. And the ones that have no money! Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk even without money and without price. 2Why do YOU people keep paying out money for what is not bread, and why is YOUR toil for what results in no satisfaction? Listen intently to me, and eat what is good, and let YOUR soul find its exquisite delight in fatness itself. 3Incline YOUR ear and come to me. Listen, and YOUR soul will keep alive, and I shall readily conclude with YOU people an indefinitely lasting covenant respecting the loving-kindnesses to David that are faithful.

Mark 1:9-13

9In the course of those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John. 10And immediately on coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being parted, and, like a dove, the spirit coming down upon him; 11and a voice came out of the heavens: “You are my Son, the beloved; I have approved you.”
12 And immediately the spirit impelled him to go into the wilderness. 13So he continued in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan, and he was with the wild beasts, but the angels were ministering to him.

John 1:1-5
First Edition - 1950
1Originally the Word was, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god. 2This one was originally with God. 3All things came into existence through him, and apart from him not even one thing came into existence.
What has come into existence 4by means of him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light is shining in the darkness, but the darkness has not overpowered it.

First Edition - 1950
1Now I make known to YOU, brothers, the good news which I declared to YOU, which YOU also accepted, in which YOU also stand, 2through which YOU are also being saved, with the speech with which I declared the good news to YOU, if YOU are holding it fast, unless, in fact, YOU became believers to no purpose.
3For I handed on to YOU, among the first things, that which I also accepted, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; 4and that he was buried, yes, that he has been raised up the third day according to the Scriptures; 5and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6After that he appeared to upward of five hundred brothers at one time, the most of whom remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep in death. 7After that he appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 8but last of all he appeared also to me as if to one born prematurely.

1Now I make known to YOU, brothers, the good news which I declared to YOU, which YOU also received, in which YOU also stand, 2through which YOU are also being saved, with the speech with which I declared the good news to YOU, if YOU are holding it fast, unless, in fact, YOU became believers to no purpose.

Revised Edition - 2013
1Now I remind you, brothers, of the good news that I declared to you, which you also accepted, and for which you have taken your stand. 2Through it you are also being saved if you hold firmly to the good news I declared to you, unless you became believers for nothing.
3For among the first things I handed on to you was what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; 4and that he was buried, yes, that he was raised up on the third day according to the Scriptures; 5and that he appeared to Ce′phas, and then to the Twelve. 6After that he appeared to more than 500 brothers at one time, most of whom are still with us, though some have fallen asleep in death. 7After that he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8But last of all he appeared also to me as if to one born prematurely.
