Gospel: Lessons after Pentecost - Twelfth Monday - Mark 1:9-13
(title reads "Saint Matthew, c. 1, v. 9-15" in error; should be Saint Mark)
In those days, Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. As just as he was coming up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens opened and the Holy Spirit coming down like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven: "You are my beloved Son, and I am well pleased with you."
Thereupon the Spirit led him out into the desert. He remained in the desert for forty days, during which he was tempted by Satan. He lived among the wild animals, and the angels waited on him.
Gospel: Easter Liturgy Lesson - John 1:1-5
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was by God, and the Word was God. He was by God in the very beginning. Everything came into being through him, and no existence was created apart from him. In him there was life, and that life was the Light of men. That Light shines in the darkness. But the darkness cannot overpower it.
Epistle: Lessons after Pentecost - Twelfth Sunday - 1 Corinthians 15:1-11
Brethren, I want to remind you of the Gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you will be saved. But you must hold on, if you really believe in it.
In the first place, I handed on to you, as it was handed on to me, that, according to the Scriptures, Christ has died for our sins, that he was buried, that as the Scriptures had foretold, he rose from the dead on the third day, 5and that he appeared to Peter, the to the twelve.
Later on, Christ appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some of them have gone to their rest. Then he appeared to James, then to all the Apostles.
Last of all, he appeared also to me, as to one untimely born. For I am the least of the Apostles, or rather, I am unfit to be called an Apostle, since there was a time,when i persecuted the Church of God. Only by the grace of God I have become what I am. But his grace was not in vain, for I have worked harder than any of them, or rather it was not I, but the grace of God working through me. Now, whether it was I or they, this is what I preach, and this is what you believe.
New Testament
Matthew 6:9-13
9Therefore pray in this manner: 'Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. 10Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven. 11Give us this day our daily bread. 12And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. 13And let us not fall into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.'
Mark 1:9-13
9In those days, Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10As he came out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens rent asunder and the Holy Spirit like a dove descending upon him. 11Then a voice came out of the heavens, and said: "You are my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
12Thereupon the Holy Spirit led him out in the desert. 13He remained in the desert for forty days during which he was tempted by Satan. He lived with the wild animals. But the angels ministered unto him.
John 1:1-5
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was by God, and the Word was God. 2He was by God in the very beginning. 3Everything came into being through him, and no existence was created apart from him. 4In him there was life, and that life was the Light of men. 5That Light shines in the darkness. But the darkness cannot overpower it.
1 Corinthians 15:1-8
1Brethren, I want to remind you of the Gospel I preached to you. You received it. You stand in it. 2You will be saved by it. But you must hold on, if you really believe in it.
3In the first place, I handed on to you the doctrines which were handed on to me: According to the Scriptures, Christ has died for our sins, 4and was buried. As the Scriptures had foretold, he rose from the dead on the third day. 5Then he appeared to Peter and to the twelve Apostles.
6Later on, he appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some of them have gone to their rest. 7Then he appeared to James, then to all the Apostles.
8Last of all, he appeared also to me, as to an abortive man.
Matthew - 1962
Matthew 6:9-13
9"So this is how you should pray:
'Our Father, high in heaven,
Thy name be holy and revered,
10Thy kingdom be revealed,
Thy Will be now fulfilled
On earth exactly as in heaven;
11Give us this day our heav'nly bread;
12Forgive us our offences
As we forgive those who offend us;
13Let us not fall into temptation,
Save us from Satan's domination.
The kingdom, and the power, and the glory
Are thine forever and ever. Amen' "
Psalms
Psalm 23
A Psalm of David.
1My shepherd is the Lord. He never fails me.
2He gives me rest in green and grassy pastures;
He leads me to refreshing waters;
3He gives me new life;
He guides me in his name to righteousness.
4So, though I walk through dark and deadly gorges,
I fear no harm, for you are at my side
And you protect me with your rod and staff.
5You are my host; you spread a feast for me
In front of all my enemies;
You pour your precious perfumes on my head;
You fill my cup with overflowing wine.
6Your grace and love will bless me all my days,
And in your house, O Lord, I'll dwell forever.
