God Chooses Abram

1The LORD had said to Abram, "Leave your country and your people. Leave your father's family. Go to the land I will show you.

2"I will make you into a great nation.
I will bless you.
I will make your name great.
You will be a blessing to others.
3I will bless those who bless you.
I will put a curse on anyone who calls down a curse on you.
All nations on earth
will be blessed because of you."

4So Abram left, just as the Lord had told him. Lot went with him. Abram was 75 years old when he left Haran.
5He took his wife Sarai and his nephew Lot. They took all of the things they had gotten in Haran. They also took the workers they had gotten there.
They set out for the land of Canaan. And they arrived there.

A psalm of David.

1The LORD is my shepherd. He gives me everything I need.
2He lets me lie down in fields of green grass.
He leads me beside quiet waters.
3He gives me new strength.
He guides me in the right paths
for the honor of his name.
4Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will not be afraid.
You are with me.
Your shepherd's rod and staff
comfort me.
5You prepare a feast for me
right in front of my enemies.
You pour oil on my head.
My cup runs over.
6I am sure that your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life.
And I will live in the house of the LORD
forever.

The LORD Invites His People to Come to Him

1"Come, all of you who are thirsty.
Come and drink the water I offer to you.
You who do not have any money, come.
Buy and eat the grain I give you.
Come and buy wine and milk.
You will not have to pay anything for it.
2Why spend money on what is not food?
Why work for what does not satisfy you?
Listen carefully to me.
Then you will eat what is good.
You will enjoy the richest food there is.
3Listen and come to me.
Pay attention to me.
Then you will live.
I will make a covenant with you that will last forever.
I will give you my faithful love.
I promised it to David.

Paul Explains the Good News

1Brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the good news I preached to you. You received it and have put your faith in it. 2Because you believed the good news, you are saved. But you must hold firmly to the message I preached to you. If you don't, you have believed it for nothing.
3What I received I passed on to you. And it is the most important of all. Here is what it is. Christ died for our sins, just as Scripture said he would. 4He was buried. He was raised from the dead on the third day, just as Scripture said he would be. 5He appeared to Peter.
Then he appeared to the Twelve. 6After that, he appeared to more than 500 believers at the same time. Most of them are still living. But some have died. 7He appeared to James. Then he appeared to all the apostles. 8Last of all, he also appeared to me. I was like someone who wasn't born at the right time or in a normal way.

Christ Rose From the Dead

1 Brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the good news I preached to you. You received it and have put your faith in it. 2 Because you believed the good news, you are saved. But you must hold firmly to the message I preached to you. If you don’t, you have believed it for nothing.

He was raised from the dead on the third day, just as Scripture said he would be. 5 He appeared to Peter. Then he appeared to the 12 apostles. 6 After that, he appeared to more than 500 brothers and sisters at the same time. Most of them are still living. But some have died. 7 He appeared to James. Then he appeared to all the apostles. 8 Last of all, he also appeared to me. I was like someone who wasn’t born at the right time.
