Genesis 12:1-5
1Yahweh said to Abram, "Leave your country, your family and your father's house, for the land I will show you. 2I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name so famous that it will be used as a blessing.
3"I will bless those who bless you:
I will curse those who slight you.
All the tribes of the earth
shall bless themselves by you."
4So Abram went as Yahweh told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. 5Abram took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had amassed and the people they had acquired in Haran. They set off for the land of Canaan, and arrived there.
Psalm 23
1Yahweh is my shepherd,
I lack nothing.
2In the meadow of green grass he lets me lie.
To the waters of repose he leads me;
3there he revives my soul.
He guides me by paths of virtue
for the sake of his name.
4Though I pass through a gloomy valley,
I fear no harm;
beside me your rod and staff
are there, to hearten me.
5You prepare a table before me
under the eyes of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil,
my cup brims over.
6Ah, how goodness and kindness pursue me,
every day of my life;
my home, the house of Yahweh,
as long as I live!
Isaiah 55:1-3
1Oh, come to the water all you who are thirsty;
though you have no money, come!
Buy corn without money, and eat,
and, at no cost, wine and milk.
2Why spend money on what is not bread,
your wagers on what fails to satisfy?
Listen, listen to me, and you will have good things to eat
and rich food to enjoy.
3Pay attention, come to me;
listen, and your soul will live.
With you I will make an everlasting covenant
out of favours promised to David.
Mark 1:9-13
9It was at this time that Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John. 10No sooner had he come up out of the water than he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit, like a dove, descending on him. 11And a voice came from heaven, "You are my Son, the Beloved; my favour rests on you."
12Immediately afterward the Spirit drove him out into the wilderness 13and he remained there for forty days, and he was tempted by Satan. He was with the wild beasts, and the angels looked after him.
John 1:1-5
1In the beginning was the Word;
the Word was with God
and the Word was God.
2He was with God in the beginning.
3Through him all things came to be.
Not one thing had its beginning but through him.
4All that came to be had life in him
and that life was the light of men.
5a light that shines in the dark,
a light that darkness could not overpower.
1 Corinthians 15:1-8
1Brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, the gospel that you received and in which you are firmly established; 2because the gospel will save you only if you keep believing exactly what I preached to you - believing anything else will not lead to anything.
3Well then, in the first place, I taught you what I had been taught myself, namely that Christ died for our sins, in accordance with the scriptures; 4that he was buried; and that he was raised to life on the third day, in accordance with the scriptures; 5that he appeared first to Cephas and secondly to the Twelve. 6Next he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, and most of whom are still alive, 7then he appeared to James, and then to all the apostles; 8and last of all he appeared to me too; it was as though I was born when no one expected it.
