Psalm 22 (Hebrew 23)
A Psalm of David.
1 THE Lord is my shepherd; therefore can I lack nothing.
2 He maketh me to lie down in a green pasture; He leadeth me beside the still water.
3 He hath converted my soul; He hath set me on the paths of righteousness, for His Name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me;
Thy rod and Thy staff, they have comforted me.
5 Thou hast prepared a table before me against them that trouble me;
Thou hast anointed my head with oil, and Thy cub that inebriateth me, how strong it is!
6 And Thy mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord unto length of days.
Psalm 151
This psalm was specially written by David, when he fought in single combat against Goliath.
2 I WAS small among my brethren, and the youngest in my father's house; I tended my father's sheep.
3 My hands made an organ, and my fingers fashioned a psaltery.
4 And who will tell my Lord? The Lord Himself, He shall hear it.
5 He Himself sent His Angel, and took me from my father's flock, and anointed me with the oil of His anointing.
6 My brethren were tall and fair, but the Lord took no pleasure in them.
7 I went forth to meet the Philistine, and he cursed me by his idols.
8 But I took the sword from him and cut off his head; and I took away the reproach from the sons of Israel.
[This psalm is outside the number of the 150 psalms. Not read in church.]
Luke 1:68-78
68 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for He hath visited and redeemed His people,
69 And hath raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of His servant David;
70 As he spake by the mouth of His holy Prophets, which have been since the world began;
71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hands of all that hate us;
72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant,
73 The oath which He sware to our father Abraham, 74 that he would grant unto us,
that we, having been delivered out of the hand of our enemies, might serve Him without fear,
75 in holiness and righteousness before Him, all the days of our life.
76 And thou, child, shalt be called Prophet of the Most High; for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways;
77 To give knowledge of salvation unto His people unto the remission of their sins, 78 through the tender mercy of our God;
Whereby the Dayspring from on high hath visited us, 79 to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
To guide our feet into the way of peace.
