Genesis 12:1-5
The Lord gave His people long lives, but they
praised many false idols. But when the Lord gazed
at all of the people, He found in one man
a faith and a will to do as God planned.
"Abram," God said, "Leave your people and go,
to a land far away, to a place I will show.
I'll curse all who curse you and bless those who bless you.
'The father of many' is how they'll address you."
So Abram arose, took his nephew and wife,
and those three set out for a new, unknown life.
Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd, and I want for naught.
He leads me beside quiet waters in thought.
He leads me in ways in which my soul's restored.
He shows me the righteous way. He is my Lord.
I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
and I fear no evil, as God's in each breath.
I am protected by His staff and rod,
for He is my savior as He is my God.
My table is set in the presence of foes.
I'm anointed by God. My cup overflows.
Goodness and love follow me where I roam.
Forever I'll dwell in the Lord's holy home.
Isaiah 55:1-3
These verses form part of chapters 54-57.
Come if you're thirsty and drink. Allow he
who does not have money to eat bread for free.
Mark 1:9-13
Then Jesus of Nazareth came to be blessed
by John, and the sky with a frightening unrest
was ripped open wide, and out came a dove.
God spoke, "I'm pleased with My son, whom I love."
Sent to the desert and facing down Satan,
for forty days Jesus withstood all temptation.
John 1:1-5
In the beginning the Lord's Word existed.
The Word was with God. It was God. It resisted
the dark, for the darkness cannot best the flame.
It can't overpower the Word or His name.
1 Corinthians 15:1-8
These verses form part of chapters 15-16.
Christ died for our sins. He was buried and raised.
This is the truth, not the turn of a phrase.
To Peter, the Twelve, and more than five hundred
he came after death. If any man's wondered,
I saw Jesus too. I'm the lowest of all!
