Genesis 12:1-5
1The Lord said to Abram,
“Leave your land,
your relatives,
and your father’s home.
Go to the land that I will show you.
2I will make you a great nation,
I will bless you.
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.
3I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you, I will curse.
Through you every family on earth will be blessed.”
4So Abram left, as the Lord had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was 75 years old when he left Haran. 5Abram set out for Canaan. He took along his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, and all the possessions they had accumulated and the servants they had acquired in Haran.

Psalm 23
1The Lord is my shepherd.
I am never in need.
2He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside peaceful waters.
3He renews my soul.
He guides me along the paths of righteousness
for the sake of his name.
4Even though I walk through the dark valley of death,
because you are with me, I fear no harm.
Your rod and your staff give me courage.
5You prepare a banquet for me while my enemies watch.
You anoint my head with oil.
My cup overflows.
6Certainly, goodness and mercy will stay close to me all the days of my life,
and I will remain in the Lord’s house for days without end.

Psalm 61
Verses from NET: A special selection of Psalms for people who hurt
¹ For the choir director; on a stringed instrument; by David
1 ² Listen to my cry for help, O God.
Pay attention to my prayer.
2 ³ From the ends of the earth I call to you
when I begin to loose heart.
Lead me to the rock, that is high above me.
3 ⁴ You have been my refuge,
a towerof strength against the enemy.
4 ⁵ I would like to be a guest in your tent forever
and to take refuge under the protection of your wings.
5 ⁶ O God,you have heard my vows.
You have given me the inheritance
that belongs to those who fear your name.
6 ⁷ Add days upon days to the life of the king.
May his years endure throughout every generation.
7 ⁸ May he sit enthroned in the presence of God forever.
May mercy and truth protect him.
8 ⁹ Then I will make music to praise your name forever,
as I fulfill my vows day after day.
Job 38: 31 - 38
Verses from NET: Job (Editor's Proof 1992)
31 "Can you bind the chains of the constellation= Pleiades
or untie the ropes of Orion?
32 Can you bring out stars at the right time
or guide Ursa Major with its children?ª
33 Do you know the laws of the sky
or make them rule over the earth?
34 Can you call to the clouds
and have a flood of water cover you?
35 Can you send lightning flashes so they go out and say to you,
`Here we are!´
36 Who put wisdom within us
or gave understanding to the mind?
37 Who is wise enough to count the clouds
and pour out the water jar of heaven
38 when the ground hardens to a mass
and the soil clings together?
ª It is uncertain which constellation is referred to by the Hebrew word translated
"Ursa Major"
Song of Solomon 8:5-7
[The chorus of young women]
5Who is this young woman coming up from the wilderness,
leaning on her beloved?
[Bride]
Under the apple tree I woke you up.
There your mother went unto labor with you;
there she went into labor–
there she gave birth to you!
6Put me on your heart like a seal,
like a seal on your hand.
Love is just as overpowering as death.
Devotion is as unyielding as the grave.
Its flames are flames of fire,
a flame which comes from the LORD.
7 Raging waters cannot extinguish love, and
rivers will never sweep it away.
If a man exchanged all his family‘s wealth for love,
people would utterly despise him.
Isaiah 55:1-3
1“Listen! Whoever is thirsty, come to the water!
Whoever has no money can come, buy, and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk. You don’t have to pay; it's free!
2Why do you spend money on what cannot nourish you
and your wages on what does not satisfy you?
Listen carefully to me:
Eat what is good, and enjoy the best foods.
3Open your ears, and come to me!
Listen so that you may live!
I will make an everlasting promise to you—
the blessings I promised to David.
Sirach 24:8–14
8 “The the Creator of everything gave me an order.
My Creator chose a place for me to live.
He said, ‘Make your home with Jakob´s descendants,
and take the land in Israel as your own possession.´
9 He created me in the beginning, before the world began.
I will never cease to exist.
10 I served as a priest in the Lord´s holy tent,
an I became established in Zion.
11 He chose a place for me to rest in the city he loved most,
and I have authority over Jerusalem.
12 I took my place among an honored group of people.
They are the people who belong to the Creator.
13 I grew tall like a cedar in Lebanon,
like a cypress on mount Hermon.
14 I grew tall like a palm tree in En Gedi,
like a rosebush in Jericho.
I grew tall like a beautiful olive tree in the fields,
like a plane tree.“
Mark 1:9-13
1989 Edition - God's Word to the Nations
9It was in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10Just as He came out of the water, He saw heaven torn open and the Spirit coming down on Him as a dove. 11And a voice from heaven said, “You are My Son, whom I love. I am delighted with you.”
12Then the Spirit brought Him out into the wilderness, 13and He was in the wilderness for 40 days while Satan continued to tempt Him. He was there with the wild animals, and the angels took care of Him.

1989 Edition - God's Word to the Nations
1My fellow Christians, I am proclaiming to you the Gospel which I brought to you, which you accepted, on which you now stand, 2and by which you are saved if you cling to the word I preached to you — unless your faith means nothing. 3For I brought you what I received — something very important — that Christ died for our sins as the Scriptures said He would, 4that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day as the Scriptures said He would. 5Later Peter saw Him, then the Twelve, 6then more than 500 Christians at one time; most of whom are still living, but some have fallen asleep in death. 7Then James saw Him, then all the apostles. 8Last of all I saw Him, I who was like one born unexpectedly.
1995 Edition
1Brothers and sisters, I’m making known to you the Good News which I already told you, which you received, and on which your faith is based. 2In addition, you are saved by this Good News if you hold on to the doctrine I taught you, unless you believed it without thinking it over. 3I passed on to you the most important points of doctrine that I had received:
Christ died to take away our sins as the Scriptures predicted.
4He was placed in a tomb.
He was brought back to life on the third day as the Scriptures predicted.
5He appeared to Cephas. Next he appeared to the twelve apostles. 6Then he appeared to more than 500 believers at one time. (Most of these people are still living, but some have died.) 7Next he appeared to James. Then he appeared to all the apostles. 8Last of all, he also appeared to me. I’m like an aborted fetus who was given life.
1 Timothy 6:11–15
1988 Biblion ed.
11 But you, man of God, flee from these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patient endurance, gentleness.
12 Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the everlasting life to which you were called and which you confessed so beautifully before many witnesses.
13 I insist on this before God, from whom comes all life, and before Christ Jesus, who testified with a beautiful confession before Pontius Pilate, 14 that you keep this command without spot or blame until our Lord Jesus Christ appears.
15 At His own right time God will show Him to us – He, the blessed ond only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone has immortality, who lives in a light to which no one can come near, whom no has has ever seen nor can see.
To Him be honor and power forever! Amen.
