Genesis 12:1-5

Seventh Edition

History of the House of Abram.
1The EVER-LIVING then said to Abram, "Depart from your native land, and from the home of your forefathers, to the land to which I will direct you. 2And I will make you a great nation, and I will prosper and ennoble your name; and you shall be a benefactor; 3and I will bless those who benefit you, and punish those who injure you, and all the nations of mankind shall become benefited from you." 4So Abram departed, as the EVER-LIVING had told him; and Lot accompanied him; and Abram was seventy-five years old at his departure from Haran. 5Abram also took Sarai, his wife, and Lot the son of his brother, and the whole of his property which he possessed, and the slaves which he had acquired in Haran; and he proceeded to travel to the land of Canaan; and he came to the country of Canaan.

Psalm 23

Seventh Edition

1A Psalm of David.
STANZA I.
My LORD attends;—I shall not want; —
2He lets me rest in verdant fields,
He leads me by the pleasant brooks,
3He brings me back, my life refreshed,
To skip with joy, and praise His Name.
STANZA 2.
3Though I may walk through Death's dark Vale,
I fear no hurt, for You are there,
Your rod and staff direct my way.
STANZA 3.
5You spread my board before my foes,
With flowing cup have oiled my head.
6Kindness and mercy follow me,
On every day I live;
And in the LORD'S house I shall dwell,
To lengthen out my days

Isaiah 55:1-3

Seventh Edition

ODE 48.

A Call to the Poor.
1"Hoy! All you thirsty come on to the waters;
And you, without money, come buy corn and eat!
Come! buy corn without cash, wine and milk without cost!

2Why should you pay money, and not have the bread?
And why should you labour and never be fed?
Attend to and hear Me, and eat of the best,
And nourish your lives on the richest of food!

3Attend with your ears and come forward to Me;
If you listen your souls will revive in yourselves!
And I will record a firm contract with you,
The strong and the true promise of David!

Jonah 2:1-2, 10

Seventh Edition

Jonah Rescued by "The Great Fish".

1But the EVER-LIVING had appointed "The Great Fish"1 to pick up Jonah. And Jonah was three days and nights in the hold of the "Fish," 2and Jonah prayed to his EVER-LIVING GOD from the hold of "The Fish," and said:—

10The EVER-LIVING afterwards directed "The Fish," and it discharged Jonah on the land.

1 NOTE.-Ch. 2, V. I. "Great Fish" was the name of the ship mistranslated "Whale" in the version of the Greek translators, whose blunder has been repeated by all subsequent translators, in all languages, to the perplexity of their readers, until I decided to go back to the original statement of the prophet in his own Hebrew.—F. Mark 1:9-13

Tenth Edition Specially Revised

The Baptism of Jesus.
9It was in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John, in the Jordan. 10And immediately upon ascending from the water, he saw the heavens part asunder; and the Spirit, in the likeness of a dove, descended upon Him: 11while a voice from the heavens said, "You are My Son, My Beloved, in Whom I delight."

The Temptation.
12Then at once the Spirit drove Him to the desert, 13to be tried by Satan for forty days; and He was in company with the wild beasts, but the angels ministered to Him.

John 1:1-5

Tenth Edition Specially Revised

"The Word" and Creation.
1The WORD existed in the beginning, and the WORD was with God, and the WORD was God. 2He was present with God at the beginning. 3All came into existence by means of Him; and nothing came into existence apart from Him. 4That which originated in Him was Life; and the Life was the Light of mankind. 5That Light shines in the darkness; but the darkness did not absorb it.

1 Corinthians 15:1-8

1884 Edition

On the Doctrine of a Future Life.
1And I declare to you, brothers, the Gospel which I imparted to you, and which you accepted, and in which you stand, 2and by which you will be saved, I preached to you with this object, if you comprehend it, unless you have believed a sham. 3For I delivered to you in the first place what I had also received. That Christ died because of the sins of us, in accordance with the Scriptures, 4and that he was buried, and that he arose at the third day, in accordance with the Scriptures, 5and that he was seen by Kephas, then by the twelve, 6and afterwards that he was distinctly seen by five hundred brothers at once, of whom the most exist till now, but some have fallen asleep; 7after that he was seen by James, then by all the Apostles, 8But last of the whole, as if to the untimely one, he appeared also to me!

Tenth Edition Specially Revised

The Doctrine of the Resurrection.
1I now declare to you, brothers, the gospel which I imparted to you, which you also accepted, in which you also stand, 2and by which you will be saved; I preached it to you with this object, if you grasp it—unless you have relied upon a phantom. 3For I delivered to you, in the first place, what I had also received—that Christ died because of our sins, in accordance with the Scriptures. 4That He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day, in accordance with the Scriptures. 5That He was seen by Kephas, afterwards by the twelve: 6and after that He appeared openly to five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater number remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; 7that He appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8But last of them all, as if to a laggard, He appeared also to me.
