Genesis 12:1-5
1 The LORD said to Abram:
Go out from your land,
your relatives,
and your father's house
to the land that I will show you.
2 I will make you into a great nation,
I will bless you,
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you,
I will curse anyone who treats you
with contempt,
and all the peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.
4 So Abram went, as the LORD had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. 5 He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated, and the people they had acquired in Haran, and they set out for Canaan. When they came to the land of Canaan,
Psalm 23
A psalm of David.
1The LORD is my shepherd;
I have what I need.
2He lets me lie down
in green pastures;
he leads me beside quiet waters.
3He renews my life;
he leads me along the right paths
for his name's sake.
4Even when I go
through the darkest valley,
I fear no danger,
for you are with me:
your rod and your staff —
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows."
6 Only goodness and faithful love
will pursue me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house
of the LORD
as long as I live.
Isaiah 55:1-3
1 "Come, everyone who is thirsty,
come to the water;
and you without silver,
come, buy, and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
without silver and without cost!
2 Why do you spend silver on what
is not food,
and your wages on what
does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to me, and eat
what is good,
and you will enjoy the choicest
of foods.
3 Pay attention and come to me;
listen, so that you will live.
I will make a permanent covenant
with you
on the basis of the faithful
kindnesses of David.
Mark 1:9-13
9 In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John. 10 As soon as he came up out of the water, he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven: "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well-pleased."
12 Immediately the Spirit drove him into the wilderness. 13 He was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and the angels were serving him.
John 1:1-5
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 All things were created through him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created. 4 In him was life, As and that life was the light of men. 5 That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it.
1 Corinthians 15:1-8
1 Now I want to make clear for you, brothers and sisters, the gospel I preached to you, which you received, on which you have taken your stand 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold to the message I preached to you — unless you believed in vain. 3 For I passed on to you as most important what I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the Twelve. 6Then he appeared to over five hundred brothers and sisters at one time; most of them are still alive, but some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as to one born at the wrong time, he also appeared to me.
