Genesis 12:1-5

Abram's Call and First Blessing

1 THE LORD said to Abram:

"Leave your country, your
kinsfolk and your father's house,
for the land which I
will show you;
2 I will make a great nation of you.
I will bless you, and make your name great,
so that you shall be a blessing.
3 I will bless them that bless you,
and curse them that curse you.
In you shall all the nations of the earth be
blessed."
4 Abram went away as the LORD had commanded him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. 5 Abram took Sarai his wife, Lot his brother's son, all the property they had acquired and the persons they had got in Haran; and they departed for the land of Chanaan. When they came to the land of Chanaan,

Psalm 23

PSALM 22 (23)

The Lord, Shepherd and Host

1 A psalm of David.

I
THE LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 In verdant pastures he gives me repose;
Beside restful waters he leads me;
3 he refreshes my soul.
He guides me in right paths
for his name's sake.
4 Even though I walk in the dark valley
I fear no evil; for you are at my side
With your rod and your staff
that give me courage.

II
5 You spread the table before me
in the sight of my foes;
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Only goodness and kindness follow me
all the days of my life;
And I shall dwell in the house of the LORD
for years to come.

Isaiah 55:1-3

1All you who are thirsty,
come to the water!
You who have no money,
come, receive grain and eat;
Come, without paying and without cost,
drink wine and milk!
2Why spend your money for what is not bread;
your wages for what fails to satisfy?
Heed me, and you shall eat well,
you shall delight in rich fare.
3Come to me heedfully,
listen, that you may have life.
I will renew with you the everlasting covenant,
the benefits assured to David.

John 1:1-5 - 1938 Proposed Revision

1 IN the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God;
and the Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made through him,
and without him was made
nothing that has been made.

4 In him was life,
and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shines in the darkness;
and the darkness understood it not.

John 1:1-5 - 1941 New Testament

nothing that has been made.

4 In him was life,
and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shines in the darkness;
and the darkness grasped it not.

1 Corinthians 15:1-8

Christ's Resurrection

1 NOW I recall to your minds, brethren, the gospel that I preached to you, which also you received, wherein also you stand, 2 through which also you are being saved, if you hold it fast, as I preached it to you—unless you have believed to no purpose. 3 For I delivered to you first of all, what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day, according to the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, and after that to the Eleven. 6 Then he was seen by more than five hundred brethren at one time, many of whom are with us still, but some have fallen asleep. 7 After that he was seen by James, then by all the apostles. 8 And last of all, as by one born out of due time, he was seen also by me.
