Psalm 23 - 1884 Version
1Jehovah is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2In pastures of young grass he maketh me lie down:
by the waters of resting-places doth he gently lead me.
3He refreshes my soul;
he heads me in the right tracks
for his name's sake.
4Yea, though I walk through the valley of deadly shade,
I will fear no evil, for thou art with me:
thy club and thy staff, they comfort me.
5Thou furnishest a table before me
in the presence of my foes;
thou hast anointed my head with oil,
my cup runs over.
6Surely good fortune and loving-kindness shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of Jehovah
for length of days.
Psalm 23 - 1904 Version
1Yahwè is the shepherd [of Israel]; | [no good thing] do I lack.
2In [a place of] tender grassy pastures — | there he makes me lie down.
To fountains of living water | [Yahwè] leads me to drink;
3He guides me in the paths that are right | for his name’s sake.
4Even if I walk through a glen darksome as Hades, | I fear no hurt;
[? neither lion nor young lion do I dread ?] for thou art with me.
Thy pastoral rod, thy staff, | that tranquillizes me.
5Before me thou arranges a table | within thy courts;
My desire thou satisfiest with rich food, | my cup thou fillest to the brim.
6Surely goodness and loving-kindness will attend me | all my life long;
And I shall dwell in Yahwè’s house | for endless days.
