Mark 1:9-13

9It was at this very time that Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, being baptized by John in the Jordan. 10And as he was coming up from the water, he all at once saw the heaven split wide open and the Spirit, having the appearance of a dove, descending upon him. 11At the same time a voice was heard from heaven which said, "You are my Son, my dearly-loved one. It is upon you that my favour rests." 12Immediately after that the Spirit led him forth into the desert. 13And there he was in the desert for forty days, being put to the test by Satan. The wild beasts were his company, and God's angels looked after his wants.

John 1:1-5

1It was the Word that was at the very beginning; and the Word was by the side of God, and the Word was the very same as God. 2It was he who at the very beginning was by the side of God. 3All things came into being through him, and there was nothing that came into being apart from him. 4In him was life, that life which was ever the light of men, 5the light which shines on in the darkness, and the darkness failing to gain mastery over it.

1 Corinthians 15:1-8

1And now, my brothers, I would bring before your mind the gospel which I proclaimed to you, the very gospel which you accepted and on which you have taken your stand. 2Moreover, it is the gospel which is the means of your obtaining your salvation, so long, that is, as you hold fast to what I proclaimed to you, preserving the very tenor of my preaching. Otherwise, if you fail to do this, it would have to be concluded that, when you came to embrace the faith, it was all quite superficial. 3Well then, first and foremost I passed on to you what I, for my part, had handed on to me. And it was this: that Christ died for our sins, as the scriptures had foretold, 4that he was buried, and then, as the scriptures had foretold, was raised to life again on the third day, 5and that he appeared to Cephas and then to the Twelve. 6Afterwards he appeared to five hundred and more of our brothers on the same occasion, most of these surviving to this day, while some of them have gone to their rest. 7Still later he appeared to James, and then to all the apostles. 8And last of all he appeared to me also, this having to be looked upon as being, as it were, the fruit not of a proper birth but of an untimely one.
