Gospel of John - 1860
This was translated by H. F. Buckner, a Baptist Missionary to the Creeks (1845-1882), and G. Herrod, a Creek interpreter.
The alphabet used in this translation differs from that used in other Creek translations. In particular Buckner used an omega (ω) for a long o as in no and a theta (θ) for the "oo" sound as in took. In the preliminary matter, Buckner has a table explaining the alphabet to speakers of both English and Creek. The notes in the text are all in English. Following the text there is a list of names and titles of Christ, a list of special words and a hymn.
When translating the name of the Supreme Being, Buckner uses the name Jehovah (Chehofv) instead of the Creek word Hesakitvmise.
A large part of this edition was destroyed during the American Civil War.
