William Laughton Lorimer (1885-1967) was born near Dundee, Scotland and spent most of his life teaching. He was best known as one of the most learned Greek scholars of his generation and was also a student of spoken Scots. During the last twenty years of his life he made substantial contributions to The Scottish National Dictionary; and during the last ten, he translated the New Testament from Greek into Scots. Lorimer had only completed revising about three-quarters of the New Testament at his death and his son, R. L. C. Lorimer completed the revision and prepared the translation for publication.
