Comments: Clothboard, small 8vo, 377 pp. - In the preface dated London, 1947, the Ford Brothers give praise to the A.V. of 1611 and take it as an example for conciseness, avoidance of paraphrasing and possession of its own literary merits. As the translators believe that there's still room for a new version, their L. V. in current English endeavors to be free from old- fashioned words and unfamiliar grammar, to follow the original closely, paraphrasing only where necessity dictates and to seek above all to maintain the simple, dignified style of writing which has for so long been associated with the Scriptures in English.
The Scripture text is presented in double column; besides chapter and verse- numbering there are no extras given like headings, references or footnotes.
Noteworthy, on one copy the lack of an end-paper, obviously resulting from paper shortage in the early post- war years, made it necessary to print the remaining verses of Revelation XXII onto the last page (377) glued to the back cover. Another copy has the regular end-papers.
