The Portuguese is a new version prepared for the American Bible Society by A. de Mattos, a Presbyterian minister of Jacksonville, Illinois, who based it mainly on “a translation from London from the Greek” - probably Thomas Boy’s revision. First Edition. (Darlow & Moule, 7518). de Mattos' name does not appear on the title page or anywhere else in the book.
