Concordant Version

The Concordant Version is based on the principle that “every word in the original should have its own English equivalent.” The New Testament includes a Greek text with an ultraliteral English translation in the sublinear. The New Testament was originally published in parts between 1914 and 1926.

More information on the Concordant Version may be found on their website

History

The best place to research the history of the Concordant Version is the magazine, Unsearchable Riches, which has been published continuously since 1909 by the Concordant Publishing Concern.

The following quotations from the magazine show the progress of the Version from 1919 to 1930.

Unsearchable Riches, Volume 10, Number 5, June 1919.

The first part of the Concordant Version, The Unveiling, is announced.

Unsearchable Riches, Volume 12, Number 3, February 1921.

“The second installment of the Concordant Version has been printed and is ready for delivery. It consists of Paul’s Epistles from Ephesians to Philemon.”

Unsearchable Riches, Volume 12, Number 5, June 1921.

“The third installment of the Concordant Version is all in type. The proofs are being read and checkers are at work checking each word with a concordance to discover any irregularities in rendering, grammar, etc. It may be some time ere this work has been satisfactorily done and conditions are such that the edition can be printed but we hope it will not be long. This will complete all of Paul’s epistles, by far the most important part of the whole work for us in this economy.”

Unsearchable Riches, Volume 14, Number 2, December 1922.

“After many delays, the Concordant Version of the book of Acts is printed and ready for the binders.”

Unsearchable Riches, Volume 14, Number 6, August 1923.

“As the next part of the Version, Hebrew to Jude, is now in the press, our readers should receive their copy within a month or so. As this finishes all from Acts to the end, we are binding these five parts together in the usual Bible binding, full leather, gilt edge. These are especially fitting for presents. Later on the gospels will be bound together as Volume I, this will be Volume II, the helps will be Volume III.”

Unsearchable Riches, Volume 15, Number 6, November 1924.

“After extraordinary hindrances and difficulties of various kinds, we have the joy of announcing that the Concordant Version of the gospel of John is printed, and will be sent to subscribers as soon as we are able to do so.”

Unsearchable Riches, Volume 17, Number 2, March 1926.

“We hoped to put the Version into the hands of our friends lone ere this, but we have been at considerable extra time and expense in an endeavor to make it as perfect as our present limitations permit. We are indeed glad to note the eagerness of those who want it, and trust that we shall not try their patience much longer. It [i.e. Matthew , Mark, and Luke] is now in the hands of the binders, so that we shall soon begin to make deliveries.

There will be no lack of the new parts, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and the Unveiling. … [W]e hope to confine the sales to complete volumes as soon as possible.

Unsearchable Riches, Volume 17, Number 3, May 1926.

“The first edition is going fast”

Unsearchable Riches, Volume 21, Number 6, November 1930.

"It is with a heart overflowing with gratitude that I announce the completion of the Concordant Version of the Sacred Scriptures.

According to Chamberlin 603-4, the New Testament was published in the following parts:

1914 Paul's Epistle to the Romans with Framework, and Ephisians, Philippians, Colossians, and I and II Thessalonians with Framework.
1919 The Unveiling of Jesus Christ. (Revelation) Greek with sublinear, version and notes.
1923 Romans - Galatians.
1923 Ephesians - Philemon
1923 Acts - Unveiling (known as vol. 2.)
1924 Hebrews to Jude
1925 Concordant Version … John's Account
1926 Matthew, Mark and Luke along with a 4th edition of the Unveiling

Chamberlin's dates do not agree with the information from Unsearchable Riches which should probably be taken as the authoritative dates.

Comments: (From the Introduction) "This present edition of HEBREW SCRIPTURES STUDY SHEETS for JEREMIAH and LAMENTATIONS is a facsimile reproduction of typewritten copy. It was originally prepared on half sheets by our late Brother E.H. Clayton of Sheffield, England, for the use of the typesetter. However, in view of the expense involved and the expected time before a printed edition could be prepared, and in view of the careful work done on this copy, it is felt that a limited edition of these facsimile sheets would be warranted."
