The Amplified Bible is an expanded translation in the sense that alternate renderings or additional words designed to bring out the full sense are incorporated into the text instead of appearing in the margins or footnotes. The Gospel of John was published in 1954 and the complete New Testament in 1958. The Old Testament was published in two parts in 1962 and 1964. The translator was Frances E. Siewert (1881-1967). An Expanded Edition was published in 1987.
